How to create your account for Github?

Create your GitHub account in a few simple steps so you can save your code, share projects, and connect with tools like VS Code.

Open the GitHub website

Open your web browser and go to the GitHub homepage. GitHub is a website where developers store code, manage projects, and work together.

Click “Sign up”

On the GitHub home page, look for the Sign up button. It is usually near the top-right corner of the page.

Click it to begin creating your new account.

Enter your email address

Type in the email address you want to use for GitHub. Make sure you use an email account you can access, because GitHub will send a verification email.

It is best to use an email you check often so you do not miss important messages.

Create a password

Enter a strong password for your GitHub account. A good password should be hard to guess and should include a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols if possible.

Do not reuse an old password from another website if you can avoid it.

Choose your GitHub username

Now choose a username. This will be your public name on GitHub, and other people will see it in your profile and repository links.

Try to choose a name that is simple, professional, and easy to remember.

Complete the verification step

GitHub may ask you to complete a puzzle or simple security check to confirm that you are a real person.

Verify your email

After sign-up, GitHub will usually send a message to your email inbox. Open that email and click the verification link.

Once you click the link, your account becomes fully activated.

Finish your profile setup

GitHub may ask a few setup questions, such as your experience level, interests, or whether you want a free or paid plan.

For most beginners, the Free plan is enough.

You can skip optional setup choices and update your profile later.

After setup, you can create repositories, upload code, and connect GitHub with Visual Studio Code or other development tools.
